Compared to the Yelstin years, I can see why many Russians were nostalgic for the Brezhnev Soviet era. Stagnation was bad, but at least as a Soviet Citizen you had a roof over your head and can eat meals.

To the men of the USCG, many of those who served in Vietnam, and those who didn't, I learned something while watching the History Channel. When the US Air Force purchased the brand new helicopter known as the "Jolly Green Giant." The helicopter's sole purpose was to rescue downed pilots. But there was one MAJOR PROBLEM.....The Air Force didn't have helicopter pilots that SPECIALIZED in this type of duty. Who did the Air Force turn to for HELP?...You bet your ASS!!....The USCG!! The Air Force asked for VOULINTEERS and the USCG RESPONDED. The USCG is KNOWN for ALWAYS answering the call to HELP or ASSIST, etc. The USCG was also a part of the MRF, Mobile Riverine Force, patrolling the muddy waters of the Mekong Delta along with Naval Task Force 115, 116 and 117. Which provided support to the US ARMY's 1st and 2nd Brigades. Their duty was to go inland and patrol the endless rice paddies of the Delta, searching for "Charlie," which was a living HELL. This is where my Dad's service comes into play. He arrived in Vietnam in March of '68 and was assigned to B Co 3rd Bn 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, base camp was "Bearcat." He SURVIVED the 12 months of leeches, misquotes, red ants, wasps, and the deep thick mud along with the monsoon rain and the heat!! He EARNED a purple heart, a bronze, C.I.B, along with many more. He retired with the rank of E-7 and passed away in Nov of '83....R.I.P....Much thanks to both NAVY & COAST GUARD for your assistance.

Israel also destroyed the Syrian-Korean nuclear program through an Air Force strike in 2006 Let's imagine the world if Saddam Hussein had nukes in the 90's during the Gulf War or if Assad who supports every terrorist organization around had nuclear capability. The situation with Iran is very complicated while the nuclear program and the missiles are planned for a distance of 3000-5000 km to reach Europe and beyond.. Everyone understands that if Israel does not stop the Iranians no one else will.. www.youtube.com /watch?v=SO9ujPmNOr0

This will come a bit late but must be written, this conflict had a purpose the preservation of Russia as a whole entity, it was bloody and a mess for reasons everyone can number. Even if the result took years to materialize it did, now Chechnya is still a part of Russia and it's people united, that they turned from enemies to an autonomy loyal to Russia should be a subject of study. You will see, war is a consequence of politics and the political objectives shape the war as much as the war shapes what you can gain politically, Russia went to Chechnya with a clear political objective and they succeed even if their military wasn't the best. In comparison, what was the political objective of the US in Irak or Afghanistan? People still can't say even after all this time, it doesn't matter that you have the best military if your objectives are not clear you won't succeed. This why you american had to get out of Afghanistan and why you will leave Irak, if you think that a kill count matters most than achieving political success then you are doomed to lose every war you will set foot upon.

16:40 "The Intruder has absolutely no air-defense capability" is not an accurate statement. It was definitely capable of carrying AIM-9s for self-defense. However, judging by most accounts, that capability was rarely ever used and never in anger.

Watching all these guys negotiate reminds me that as humans we are all just winging it, bunch of monkeys shaking branches, no one really knows what they are doing until after they have done it. I really hope AI takes over leadership and governing roles sometime soon. We are literally nations run by old boys. There is no such thing as a grown up.

The two destroyers escorting the Belgrano, "fled the area"? Fled.......... leaving 700+ sailors in the waters of the south Atlantic without making any attempt at picking up their fellow sailors of a sinking ship. The commanders of the those fleeing destroyers were hopefully court martialed for dereliction of duty and cowardice........

Wow.Like traveling back thru a time portal! I grew up back then. I remember Reagan saying, Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall." They called the USSR the iron curtain for a reason as this video sadly shows. But it's a great lesson in how communism is a massive FAILURE on ALL levels. The wall DID come down!
